Sara & Thomas: Salt Creek Baptist Church Wedding - Dallas, OR

DSC00344.jpg

Sara & Thomas

Christmas trees, lights, and a wonderful couple. The perfect recipe for a Winter wedding.

Sara and Thomas tied the knot at Salt Creek Baptist Church, set in the countryside near Dallas, OR. The day was filled with details that made this wedding unique. Sara looked lovely in her gown accessorized with a muff and her grandmas brooches, and their ceremony was filled with singing of praise and Christmas songs. The church’s gym was transformed into a gorgeous reception site, full of twinkling lights and vintage decor. Sara and Thomas, along with their families, went above and beyond to make Nate and I feel like part of the family for the day. We couldn’t be happier for them!

Congratulations Sara & Thomas!

Mia & Vincent: Eola Hills Wine Cellars Wedding- Rickreall, OR

Mia & Vinnie

A late November wedding in Oregon usually means a wet and cold day. Mia and Vinnie lucked out with a beautiful sunny day for their wedding at Eola Hills Wine Cellars. We were able to do a lot of outdoor portraits and family photos that still had a lot of gorgeous fall color. We also had fun shooting the bridal party in the venues barrel room. Nate set up some lighting that really transformed the space.

We’d been looking forward to this wedding for awhile, as Nate used to work with Mia. We’re so happy that she’s found her perfect match in Vinnie!

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Amelia & Alberto: Zenith Vineyard Wedding - Salem, OR

Amelia & Alberto

Amelia and Alberto’s guests were greeted with a spectacular view of rolling hills filled with bright yellow vines as they arrived at the outdoor ceremony site. Zenith Vineyard provided the perfect backdrop for the couples sweet ceremony and reception.

Some of our favorite moments of the day included watching the groom fly through the air during the reception, and taking a few minutes for portraits with these lovebirds during the most amazing golden hour. Oh, and the cake. It was fantastic.

Congratulations to Alberto and Amelia! You two are the sweetest, and wish you so much joy!

Meagan’s Bridal Session: Bush Park - Salem, OR

This shoot was so. much. fun.

We of course love doing Bridal portraits on the day of the wedding, but this shoot allowed us some extra time to play. Meagan was breathtaking in her Elizabeth Dye gown with hair by Kayleigh Fergusen, makeup by Summer Kalinowski, and florals by Kailla Platt Flowers.

Kristiina & Ethan: Green Villa Barn & Gardens - Independence, OR

Kristiina & Ethan-8.jpg

Kristiina & Ethan

Over the last few years we have had the privilege of capturing three weddings for the sisters of this family. Kristiina and her sisters are some of the sweetest women and it has been such a joy to watch their families grow.

Kristiina and Ethan said their vows at Evangelical Bible Church in Dallas, OR and continued the party out at Green Villa Barn and Gardens in Independence, OR. These two were so sweet to watch together and it's clear how much they care for each other.

At most weddings, there's at least one moment that still smacks me right in the feels. For Ethan and Kristiina's it came with a surprise set up by her mother. She requested the song "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof and had each of their four daughter's join them in a waltz with their spouses. For those unfamiliar with the song, (watch the movie, it's a classic) it perfectly describes how quickly children grow up and create families of their own. Maybe it's the fact that we have a baby boy of our own now, but whew...talk about emotional.

Chris & Meagan: Detroit Lake Engagement Session - Detroit, OR

_DSC0378.jpg

Chris & Meagan

Often couples preface a shoot with "We're really awkward in front of the camera!" It's so fun to show them otherwise.

Chris and Meagan choose the dramatic backdrop of Detroit Lake in Detroit, Oregon for their engagement session. At certain points of the year the water level drops creating a surreal moonscape that is incredible to see. We shot on and around the preserved stumps and roots that dot the surface of the lake bed. Far from awkward, Chris and Meagan absolutely killed it! The way they look at each other and laugh together, tells you it's a real deal, genuine love. We couldn't be more excited for their upcoming fairy forest wedding this September!

Audrey & Cody: Green Villa Barn Wedding - Independence, Oregon

Focal Point Studios Oregon Wedding Photography-31.jpg

Audrey & Cody

Audrey and Cody paid tribute to their Irish heritage with a St. Patrick's Day wedding at Green Villa Barn in Independence, OR. Their wedding incorporated traditional elements such as a horseshoe hiding in the Bride's bouquet and a hand-fasting ceremony. Typically, a March wedding in Oregon means rain all day. However, we must have had some Irish luck on our side as we got some breaks that created stunning dramatic skies for portraits.

Julie & Luke: Green Villa Barn- Independence, OR Wedding Photography

Julie and Luke's wedding day was an extra special event. Not only did these two say "I do," they also became a family! The way these two love each other and their children is extraordinary to see.

Julie and Luke chose to get married at the Green Villa Barn in Independence, Oregon. We had never seen a more glitter filled ceremony and reception! Every sparkly detail the bride picked out shown under the barns dazzling twinkle light ceiling. Her maids looked lovely in their rose gold shimmering gowns and the Bride had the most amazing Cinderella shoes. Julie and Luke were so sweet to work with and we wish them and their little family all the best!

How to Prepare for Your Engagement Session

When you're getting ready for your engagement session, don't forget that this is supposed to be fun!  Many of our couples naturally have questions about what to expect from their engagement shoot and how to prepare. We've collected a few of the most common questions and created some tips to help you feel comfortable and ready.

     What to Wear?

Many couples choose to have two outfits, one casual and one that is more dressy. This can add more variety to your pictures. Another key to looking great in your photos, is to remember to COORDINATE instead of matching. Dresses or clothing with flowing fabric can add great movement. If possible, try to avoid small prints and patterns as these don't always translate well to photos. Also, remember that clothing with lots of writing or logos can be distracting. You may consider adding accessories with bright colors or some statement jewelry. These items can add that finishing touch to your look or be used to tie your outfits together. The most important thing when choosing an outfit is to feel comfortable and like YOU!  If you feel awkward in your outfit, it can show.

     Time & Location

We will work with you to set a time that fits your schedule, but ideally has great lighting. Often this is in the evening before the sun sets. We can help you to pick out the perfect location, or you can make suggestions of your own. We always encourage our couples to think about a place that is meaningful to them. It could be anything from where you had your first date, to a favorite hike. This helps make your shoot unique to you as a couple.

        Be On Time

Once we've set a time together, stick to it! If you're late to your session you may lose time due to a lack of light. While we can work around this with additional lighting, beautiful natural light is ideal. We understand that sometimes things do happen that are beyond your control. If at all possible, try to be on time so you can get the most out of your session and catch that gorgeous sunlight!

  Style & Appearance

The day of your engagement session is the perfect time to do your hair and makeup trial run. Not only do you get to test drive how your look appears in photos, it can also give you that salon-fresh boost of confidence for your session. Whether you choose to have your makeup done by a professional, or do it yourself, remember that slightly heavier eye makeup than you might typically wear can make your eyes POP in photos. Don't forget we will also be taking photos of your ring! Having neat nails and a clean ring can really make these shots shine.

       Using Props

We all see hundreds of those cute engagement photos with props on pinterest, but if you choose to use them, try to limit it to just a few that are personal to you. Too many props can be distracting from the real focus, YOU! Styles always change, so choosing props that mean something to you, or are a part of the wedding, prevents you from looking back on your photos down the road and wondering "What was I thinking!?" You might also consider bringing props that are practical for posing, such as a pretty blanket, umbrella, or cool couch or chair to sit on. We don't mind lugging around furniture for you to get that perfect shot!

   Relax & Have Fun

This tip might just be the most important. Like we said at the beginning, this is supposed to be fun! We don't expect our clients to be professional models coming into the shoot. We'll take the stress out of posing and help you feel confident in what you are doing. So take a deep breath and trust us!
